Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in one’s joints. An autoimmune disease is when the body mistakes its own tissues and these tissues are attacked by the immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis can last as a chronic illness but there are patients who have had it for years and never have any symptoms. Depending how active and how long an individual has had this disease has a lot to do with the symptoms and treatments. However, this arthritis is said to progress over time which means it can make an individual’s joints get worse and worse until they are possibly destroyed.

Although arthritis is commonly known to be caused by viral, bacterial, or fungal infections in joints, scientists have still not been able to find out what exactly cause rheumatoid arthritis. There are studies being done all over the world in order to find out the major cause or causes for this inflammation. In recent studies, some scientists have came to believe that it may be passed down through genes. Stressors in the a person’s environment may have a lot to do with it. They have stated that it is basically a bacteria or factors in someone’s life that may cause the immune system to attack itself. With more and more studies being done, hopefully we will know the definite answer soon.

Still today there is no known cure for rheumatoid arthritis, there is treatment available to help prevent further inflammation in the joints along with taking away the pain. There are different treatments available from doctors and they are given to the patient depending on their age, health, activity, and what joints the disease is attacking. Also, stiffness in your joints is another common symptom among individuals who suffer from this disease. Symptoms of this disease are said to vary depending on how active the disease actually is. You may have none at all or if it is affecting all of your joints you could have numerous symptoms.

Although there are prescription medications doctor’s will give for patient who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis, there are also individuals who have found herbal remedies to help with their disease. Two oil’s which are natural remedies that help with rheumatoid arthritis are borage oil and fish oil. They are both said to partially minimize the symptoms. Also, a common vitamin people take to help protect their tissues in their body is Vitamin E. If you are into spices and hot foods, then taking an herbal supplement known as cayenne may be right for you. Cayenne is a hot pepper that is known to reduce pain by releasing certain ingredients. It is possible to make a cream to rub on your joints by using cayenne powder and an oil. This will be absorbed in your skin and hopefully take some of your pain away. Even though the most common herbal remedies for rheumatoid arthritis are listed above, there are more you can find out about by doing little research. There are thousands of herbs to help treat many different symptoms.

It is important to remember that when taking herbal remedies not all of them are reliable. Since they do not have to be approved by the Food and Drug Agency, there is no control over what the supplement may actually contain. This is why some doctor’s prefer their patients to stay away from some of the herbal remedies that are available in a local drug store. If you believe you can get the treatment you need through an herbal supplement, it is not a bad idea to ask your doctor what his opinion is on the different types of remedies.
