Contrary to what the name might lead you to think a “blind date” has nothing to do with anyone being “blind”, in the more specific sense of the word. In reality, a “blind date” is what occurs when two people meet up for a date without ever having met each other before. Hence, these two people being “blind” to what each other looks like, their personality, everything. They have never been in each other’s presence before and have no true idea of what to expect. These blind date matches are usually arranged by mutual friends or by some kind of dating system. Blind dates have become increasingly more popular through the rise of the Internet as people are often getting linked up through dating websites or are meeting in chat-rooms, etc. Then they eventually meet up in person for their blind date.
There is even a very popular televisions show (and shows similar to it) called “Blind Date”, which matches up couples and follows them on their dates. It is an entertaining show that creates both love and hate connections between people.
The actual “blind date” itself usually involves the two daters meeting up somewhere so they can have a chance to talk and to get to know one another. The date is usually something simple such as meeting for coffee or for dinner. Nice easy things in places where there are other people around and where the daters can feel comfortable.
Blind dates can go one of two ways. There are stories of people meeting on a blind date, hitting it off and then getting married and staying married for years. Other times they are a complete disaster and still other times both of the daters either become simply friends or part ways with cordial goodbyes as they feel no connection.
