gym repetitions: intensity or frequency
Okay, all you gym geeks: is it better to do repetitions "to failure" or should I just have more frequent repetitions?
I have heard all kinds of advice for growing muscles: (a) a few repetitions only but heavy weights - to failure - or (b) frequent and longer repetitions with just mild to moderate weights.
Do your most reps with your lightest weights and as the weight goes up the reps come down. I usually do 12 reps of 10lbs, 10 reps of 12lbs, and 8 reps of 15lbs, and I do three sets. I am just starting now to show definition. I started with 3lbs,5lbs, and 7lbs, doing the same thing.
I work upper body one day and lower the next, with about 1 hour of cardio. sometimes if I don't have time for cardio, I do the whole body and skip the workout with weights the next day, and just do cardio. Works for me.
