Question

How Much Does a New Toilet Cost?

Answer

Are you considering purchasing a new toilet? With so many models and styles available, it can be a bit overwhelming to choose the right commode for you. Most of the newer model toilets are very efficient, as many manufacturers have been revamping their product lines to conform to the environmental concerns of the consumer base.. But how much does a new toilet cost?

The cost depends on what you are looking for. Individuals can now find toilets of varying height, color, style, and function. The variation in height allows older shoppers to find a comfortable seat, and this makes it easier for them to get on and off the commode. Increased efficiency has also been a factor in individual choice, with most toilets using less than 1.6 gallons of water per flush. Some units use a mere .8 gallon of water for waste removal. In addition, most manufacturers offer a wide array of colors for each style they produce.

When considering various types of commodes, keep in mind that more money doesn’t necessarily buy improved performance, but better design. Pressure-assist models have the most flushing power because pressure is created when water displaces air inside a sealed tank. This gives water the force it needs to thrust waste from the bowl. For this model, your water pressure needs to be at least 25 pounds per square inch. These are especially good in homes with many children and heavy use, as they are the least likely to clog. They are quite loud and a bit pricey, ranging from $225 to $300 for most models.

Vacuum-assist models employ the use of a chamber inside the tank that siphons air from the trap below the bowl so it can quickly fill with water. These are among the quietest commodes available, and they are great for small apartments and the like. Be choosy if you select this type, as they do have far less flushing power than the pressure-assist models. You can expect to pay about the same for both types.

The gravity flush toilet is the most common type found in homes. This type relies on water dropping from the tank into the bowl to dispose of waste. For gravity toilets, water pressure as low as 10 pounds per square inch is enough, since gravity does the all the work. These work best for anyone looking for a quiet model, as well as for those who have low water pressure.

Some models come close to pressure-assisted performance, and their prices reflect that. Lower-priced models can be more of a hassle than they’re worth, especially if your water pressure is near the 10 pounds per square inch mark. They can range in price from $150 to about $300, just bear in mind you get what you pay for.

Two-piece designs are generally less expensive than one-piece models. They also tend to be easier to install, especially if installation is to occur on the second or higher floors of your home. If you plan to replace your commode yourself, simply follow the instructions that come with it. While it’s not a difficult task, you may end up with more problems than you can handle if the job is not done right. Most plumbers will install a new toilet and remove the old one for around $75, though they may charge more if they have to replace additional parts or lines. You will also be charged more for extra labor, such as hauling a one-piece toilet upstairs. Be sure to ask for the costs up front, and ask to be informed of additional costs before the work is done, if possible.

Whether you do it yourself or have your new toilet professionally installed, the cost of a new toilet is relatively affordable. In addition, you will be saving on your water bill, and your bathroom may be a little easier on the eyes.
