image of woman getting ready for makeup partyThrowing good make up parties takes a little more planning than a little make up and a few women. Planning, design, and complete skin care from face washing to the application process should be part of the party.

Planning the party starts with figuring out how many people you think you can handle at once. Smaller, more intimate parties are usually more successful than large parties that offer very little one on one time or personal attention. Most women enjoy a little doting and that extra effort to really make them feel attractive and special. This is one area that most women don’t get enough attention or care.

Inviting women to these parties is not always well received. You should actually send out two types of invitations, one for those who are really into make up and one for those who aren’t likely to even slap eyeliner along their lids unless they are heading off for a funeral or a wedding. The first group of women is likely to respond well to a joyous, wild invitation that expresses that happiness (and even occasional silliness) that can go on during a really good make up party. The latter group of women may appreciate a more personal invitation, which expresses the desire to spend a little time with them and encourages them to try something new.

When your guests arrive, they may or may not expect a few refreshments. There is a great debate as to the appropriateness of serving refreshments during a make up party. The basic idea is to serve treats that are tasty, at least moderately healthy if not completely guilt free, and those tidbits that do not make a person messy. Taco salads, dribbling sauces, and ooey gooey chocolate delights should be left off the menu. Tiny finger sandwiches or finger wraps, clean finger foods like shrimp, and little rolls of veggie or beef baked egg rolls make a good selection along with a few other dishes. Alcohol in moderation should only be served when you know your crowd. Again, this is one of those great debated topics regarding these parties and how to throw one that is successful and fun.

Not everyone is going to agree on how to throw a good party. In many cases, the “old standards” are too rigid while throwing all standards out the window can throw off your guests’ expectations. You want people to have fun and get into their skin care, rather than just present them with a bland option that encourages them to check their watch.

If you don’t know how to answer particular questions regarding skin types and skin care or how to do someone’s colors, you should learn before your next make up party. Being able to give out really sound advice as well as provide the accurate information will bring you back repeat guests for your next party, and send those guests who just wanted to try it out on their merry way with a new opinion about make up parties.

Give each guest individual attention, even those who are a bit harder to work with. While it is rare, sometimes a woman who has never been to one of these bashes may suddenly decide they don’t want to participate or they may even start to cry for no apparent reason. A woman, regardless of how beautiful she may be, with a low self esteem can’t always handle the personal attention or even the compliments that you should be giving your guests. In cases such as these, the desire to participate is there but the self esteem required to be really looked at and complimented is lacking. A talented and compassionate host will be able to take things very slowly, almost gingerly, and help the distressed woman feel a bit more comfortable with her face and her image. If you can touch just one woman like this during your party throwing history, you have made a tremendous impact on her soul.

Make up parties aren’t for everyone and some of your guests may enjoy the companionship but not the make up. This is okay. What you are doing during this entire process, other than introducing women to your particular make up and skin care line, is fastening tight the bond that women share with each other regardless of how they do up their look.
