Gardening and Plants Questions and Answers

Gardening and Plants

Question

Do onions have medicinal uses?

Answer

It’s said that onions, like garlic, have properties that are good for heart health.  Antioxidant phytochemicals are contained in the pungent plant.   The onion’s mild antibiotic has been known to relieve bee stings, athletes foot itch and minor infections.  Interestingly, onions are members of the lily family, along with leeks and asparagus.  Many lilies, however, contain alkaloids that make them toxic, so resist the urge to munch on your Mother’s Day bouquet.
