I learned to cook as soon as I could stand up on my own, which wasn’t unusual in that day and time. In the Texas of 1960, everyone cooked. I learned how to make biscuits, gravy, pancakes, French Toast and other staples quickly, and when I started school, my sister, brothers and I would make our own breakfast, and for mom and dad, most of the time.
