Creative Ways to Find ‘hidden’ Money

Wouldn’t it be nice if you woke up one day, and realized that you were owed money?  Sadly, many people have unclaimed money, but do not even realize they are owed.  We’re going to discuss a few ways to track down any money you are owed.  Best of all, to discover if you are owed money only takes a matter of minutes.

Equifax Data Breach

One of the quickest ways to see if you are entitled to $125 is to see if your information was apart of the Equifax Data Breach.   Equifax has provided a website, where you provide your pertinent information, and in a matter of minutes, you’ll be told if you qualify for the $125 refund, as part of a settlement.  This money can be paid via a check, or a prepaid credit card.  Something as easy as this is definitely worth a few of your minutes.

If you were an individual who spent several hours combating this thru having your identity stolen, you are entitled to a higher payout.  They’ll provide $25 per hour, up to 20 hours.  Having your identity stolen is never a fun experience but receiving $500 may help to take the sting away.

Unclaimed Life Insurance

If you’ve ever taken out a life insurance policy, surely you would remember doing so.  Most likely you’d have a copy of the policy in a safe spot.  But what if your Grand Parents, took out a small policy on you as a young child?  This is pretty common, and as our Grand Parents pass away, these policies can get misplaced.  Most likely, the type of policy is a whole life insurance, or a burial insurance policy.  These policies accumulate cash value, and legally must be paid to the beneficiary or insured.

In some cases, you may have been named a beneficiary of a policy, where the insured has passed away.  Luckily for consumers, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners has created a website, that let’s you check all 50 states, for any monies owed.  Spending a few minutes per year to see if you have money coming your way, may be a wise move.

Unclaimed Money

Have you ever left a job prematurely, or forgot to collect a utility deposit?  What about forgetting to close an old bank account, or move a previous 401K plan from a past employer?  If you have, join the club.  Many people forget about these issues, given the fast-paced world we live in.

Instead of calling around, sitting on hold for hours, there’s an amazing website that can make this, much easier on you.  The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators have set up a free data base at  You can run a quick search on this free database, to see if there’s any money that should be yours.

Money is money, and if you’re like most of us, you want what is rightfully yours.  Spending a little bit of time to see what’s owed to you, is generally a wise decision.  Afterall, who wouldn’t like to know that they have hundreds of dollars owed to them?
