I did. I went through high school with 1 pair of shoes a year. And the old ones were not tossed out, but kept and polished and stuffed with news paper. My folks were in the service (Air Force) and had gone through the depression and rationing from the war when they were young. I grew up in the 1970s. When my feet stopped growing, Mom told me to find apair of leather shoes that fit well, and buy two pair. One pair was put away and kept for “good.” They became my shoes when the first pair grew too old to keep any longer. We didn’t have church shoes and school shoes. I was lucky not to have to run barefoot in the summer!
