Mattress Mayhem: 4 Signs Your Mattress Needs to Be Replaced

When’s the last time you replaced your mattress? Can you even remember? The fact is, if you aren’t able to remember when you got a new mattress, then it is time to make a change.

The fact is, if you find the right mattress, and take care of it properly, it can last for 10 years – or more. The key here is to find the right mattress. Unfortunately, with all the options, this is often easier said than done.

Keep in mind, there are all types of mattresses out there. If you want a specialty bed, like one that is adjustable, you are going to have to find the best beds for adjustable mattresses. However, before you reach this step, you need to know if it is really time for a new mattress.

1. You Aren’t Completely Rested When You Finally Wake Up

When you are able to get a good night’s rest, then you are going to wake up feeling rested and refreshed. However, if you discover that you feel drowsy or tired, and you don’t have a sleeping disorder, such as sleep apnea, then your mattress may be to blame.

Keep in mind, if you are tossing and turning all night long, then your body is going to have to work overtime in order to find a position to sleep in that doesn’t really exist.

2. Your Back Hurts 

Do you wake up in the morning feeling tired, stiff, and in pain? If so, then there is a very good chance that you are going to need a brand-new mattress. An older mattress is going to lose its ability to offer you the support you need as time passes. This can occur in cases where the “comfort zone” has become matted down. At this point, you are going to experience pressure points because you are sleeping right on the springs.

When the comfort layers begin to lose their ability to compress and lose their shape, then your mid-section (which is the heaviest portion of your body) is going to begin to sag into your mattress. Over time, this is going to result in pain in your back, shoulders, and neck. Pain in your back and neck that you feel in the morning that seems to get better during the day is a serious sign that a new mattress is needed.

3. Sleeping in Other Areas are Much More Comfortable

Do you often go to other rooms in your house, or even the couch to get to sleep? Do you avoid your bed? If this is the case, then buying a new mattress is the best course of action. The same is true if you go on vacation and get a better night’s rest on the hotel mattress.

It’s important that you have a mattress that is both supportive and comfortable. It needs to provide you with the comfort needed to help you get plenty of rest, and to allow you to relax and completely recover from your day.

4. The Springs Have Started to Creak

A supportive mattress is a quiet mattress. If it starts making all sorts of unusual sounds, then you may need to replace it sooner, rather than later.

The same applies to your bed’s box springs. If they are worn out or broken, then they can impact the shape, support, and comfort of your mattress.
