What about if the woman feels like she’s the backup girl who he comes to talk to when his relationships go bad? I was in that situation. I fell in love with him. He said he loved me but as soon as we started dating he distanced himself from me.

Soon after agreeing to date he accused me of being a cheater nearly everyday. He would embarrass me and make fun of me. I recently ended all contact because I deserve better.

Gents it doesn’t work ,iv been used and abused and I consider myself a strong emotional man got sucked in , emotionally invested and got hurt massively, men hook up and hope it works out ,it doesn’t ! If there is some one in your life now ,make it clear what you want from the girl of you “dreams” very early on ,if she doesn’t want the same things end it ! In reply to Scotty. Friends with woman you want to have sex with never works. Any guy who is there to mop up a woman's tears is a simp. Personally do not believe in friendship with woman unless it is going towards Marriage which means you are both together as couple. I have one lady I have been friends with for 10 years. The main reason is because I am not sexually attracted to her. She has respect for me and does not use me for emotional tampon. I will not be used like that. You have to have boundaries and set them as well.

Recently had a girl try and put me on the backburner. We were seeing one another. She wanted a relationship. Then suddenly changed her mind and wanted to back off everything and be friends. I would be fine with this if I didn’t have feelings for her. But liked her too much. And I told her that straight out. That I like her too much to be just friends. So I just cut contact. Now I’m dating someone else that adores me. I still think about the other girl sometimes. But I know I made the right decision. In this particular case. I would say that if you’re in a back burner scenario where you want more and it’s hurting you. You are engaged in a toxic relationship with someone who lacks empathy towards you. Walk away and cut contact.

I am in the same situation and it really sucks…luckily i have some past experience with being the backup guy or the bench warmer and i was able to recognize the stalled situation this time…my advice to all guys out there, do not put up with bs like this, don´t sell out for cheap and just communicate what you want, be true to your self. If she keeps stalling, time to ditch her. No time for games that we used to play when we were teens

I always find myself in this position too but have become much quicker to recognize it. The only thing to do is distance yourself… It seems many women have become immune to men that actually “communicate” and are willing to open themselves up.
It is unfortunate that everything has to be a “cat & mouse” chase. Be yourself obviously but don’t always be RIGHT THERE.
Keep in mind, you (the back up guy) are probably the most emotionally stable. On the other hand, look at your own self-worth. Don’t compromise yourself for them… Make sure that they respect you and your self worth. I have found that women that do this are doing it for their own ego inflation since they don’t have the most self-worth. Men (and women that are reading this article): Be good to yourselves!

I am a back-up guy to someone and me for her, but shes engaged so nothing will probably happen but thats okay shes my best friend, shes my longest friend.
However, i fell in love with a girl who left for boot camp she was part of my friend group, she had just broken up with her boyfriend of two years who was also part of the group. They just recently got back together, but i just cant get out of my head how perfect we could be together. How well we get along, its kinda crazy ive never felt this way before. But im finally seeing that its time to move on, and its gna be crazy hard because im gna see her again in 2 weeks.
