Tips For Optimising Your Bedroom For Sleep

When designing and decorating bedrooms, many people focus on the style aspects of the space first, which can end up in a bedroom which isn’t really conducive to a good night’s sleep.

Rather than focusing too much on the style of the bedroom, you should look to optimise the space for sleep, so that you can get the rest your body needs at the end of the day.

Get The Temperature Just Right

The first step in optimising your bedroom for a better night’s sleep should be making sure that your bedroom is the perfect temperature to encourage sleep. Studies show that a temperature around 18°C is the best temperature for encouraging comfortable sleep, so aiming for that level of heat should be your goal.

During the winter time, you can turn your home’s heating on and move your bed closer to a radiator to help get a comfortable 18°C for you to sleep in. Then during the summer time, you can use air conditioning or fans to cool your bedroom down to a comfortable 18°C which will help you fall asleep much easier.

Keep Your Bedroom Dark

The next step on your sleep optimisation journey should be creating a dark space to encourage sleep. Our bodies and our sleep cycle are linked to the Sun, with us sleeping when it’s down and being awake when the Sun is out. This makes it important to have a dark bedroom as any light in the room may trick your body into thinking it’s still daytime, which will keep you awake.

Your first step should be blocking outside light from entering your bedroom through your windows, by using a Total Blackout cassette roller blind will allow you to block out all outside light creating a very dark space for sleep. Once you’ve cut out the majority of the light from your windows, you can go around your bedroom removing any interior light sources which make it harder for you to sleep at night.

Create A Cosy Space For Sleep

When optimising a bedroom for sleep, it is important to ensure that you create a comfortable space for you to sleep, after all it’s so much harder to sleep when you’re not comfortable. So, to make sleep easier for yourself you should make your bed space as comfortable as it possibly can be.

By using quality bed sheets, blankets and mattresses, you can create a bed space which is incredibly comfortable. By having a comfortable space to sleep, you will be more relaxed when you’re in your bed, which in turn will make it easier to fall asleep at night.

Drown Out Noise Pollution

Many of us find it hard to sleep at night when there is too much noise, whether it’s coming from someone watching TV too loudly in another room, noise pollution from outside or a loud neighbour it’s so much harder to fall asleep and stay asleep when there’s too much noise in your bedroom.

The best way to deal with noise pollution in your bedroom is to buy a white noise machine. A white noise machine will drown out all the noise and sound that keeps you awake at night, by covering it with white noise. White noise is also shown to make falling asleep easier, so by using a white noise machine you can make it much easier to sleep at night.
